A statement says, quote, "The BCCI hereby publicly and unequivocally calls on the Government of Belize, as the controlling shareholder of BTL, to immediately intervene and halt any definitive or binding Board vote on the acquisition of Speednet/SMART, until after meaningful stakeholder consultation is completed." End quote. We note that the BTL Executives are scheduled to meet the Chamber Executive on Wednesday after the board meeting.

The Chamber warns, quote, "Any decision made prior to our scheduled consultation is not governance, but yet a maneuver that undermines public trust and the national interest." End quote.

And the four independent Senators also issued an updated statement this evening re-committing to, quote, "be a unified block in challenging any decisions that runs afoul of the spirit and letter of the laws of Belize."

They call on the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to, quote, "conduct a legally required competition impact assessment prior to the signing of any agreement that significantly lessens competition."

They also quote, "align with the calls made by the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize and the Opposition to halt any definitive or binding decision(s) of the BTL Board and the Social Security Board pending a full compliance review and an independent valuation." End quote.
