Tonight, the Belize Chamber of Commerce, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize, the National Evangelical Association of Belize, the UDP, three independent media houses and the independent senators remain firmly opposed to the BTL acquisition of SMART.
But, the first public endorsement has appeared - and not surprisingly it comes from deep within the PUP. A rare Sunday afternoon release from the party's Northern Caucus has given a glowing endorsement of the acquisition.
It says the group - comprising the 8 northern constituencies of the ruling party - met on Saturday in Orange Walk at Maracas Resort to receive a presentation from the management of BTL.
And to no one's surprise, the caucus comes out basically supporting the deal that will benefit their boss's family in the amount of 18 million dollars. The release says, quote, "Following the presentation and discussion, the Northern Caucus of the People's United Party voted unanimously to support the proposed BTL-Smart merger and consolidation."
