So if he's free to move in Mexico and will be free to move around in a few months - will he be moving back into Cabinet?
When we asked the Minister about the possibility of returning to politics, he said that he would be willing to return, but he leaves the decision in the hands of the Prime Minister:
Jules Vasquez
"Do you expect that when you make a full recovery that you will be returned to cabinet?"
Jose Mai, Area Representative - OW South
"Well, politically in my constituency Jules, I've never stopped working. I am in the hospital in Guatemala, and my people in the villages are working. As a matter of fact, right now we're expanding the village in Trinidad. They send me photographs everyday, I make telephone calls. I coordinate from my home. I'm very good at doing that. The same thing I do with my farm. My son is on the farm and coordinate with telephone. And, as to coming back to the ministry, that's entirely on the Prime Minister. He knows the caliber of Minister he has in Agriculture. My passion is around farming and farmers. I think everybody knows that. And, I think I bring a lot to the productive sector. But again Jules, that is, that rests on the Prime Minister."
Jules Vasquez
"And, and so, but you would be prepared to, to return if the Prime Minister chooses to call on you."
Jose Mai, Area Representative - OW South
"Of course, of course. I think that Belize's strength and potential is only in two areas."
"We're not a country that is rich in minerals and petroleum. We are a country that has two important things, Land and people. And so the potential is with the people and with the land of this country."
And clearly Mai thinks the PM - who is Minister of the Sugar Industry - could use his advice. You'll hear that later on when we ask him about the BSCFA rejecting the PM's proposal on Sunday.
