Last night we had the BTL nets perspective on the finals to the Belize basketball association championship. The perpetual sub-champion is making a bid for the top spot this year? and with the best record in the league and a the most talented roster, we can't easily doubt on them. But the Kruzzas can? they're the only team to have beaten BTL this year and today the Kruzzas Matthew smiling told us that the young legs and spirit of the Kruzzas will make sure BTL is a perpetual bridesmaid.
“Having fun will bring you a championship and a championship will make you have more fun.”
Q “So that’s the strategy. Go out there and have fun and hopefully with that you can bring in the championship?”
“Well for the beginning of the season we were putting a lot of pressure on the guys and most of them are young guys. Eight of them the first time they are playing the semi-pro season so we just changed our strategy and we just told them well enjoy yourselves and for the last 6 games it has been working. So we won’t change anything now.”
Q: “Now Matthew BTL are saying that they are tired of being the bridesmaid this time they’ll walk home with the championship. Your response to that.”
“Well I hear that last year also, that they were tired of being the bridesmaid. Talk is cheap.”
Q: “BTL is a pretty strong team, I mean both you all are strong teams, but BTL in particular because they’ve been together so long. The players have gelled together for quite some time now. Do you at all think that you all, the youth and inexperience of your team will be able to match them?”
“We have experienced players on our team. Kevin Siroki, Kirk Smith, Kenroy Smith and they are matched up with some young, if you want to say they are inexperienced players but I’m not worried about BTL’s experience. We have a pretty good team and we have pretty good chance of winning”
“We’ll take it one game at a time. We won’t make any bold predictions. I know we are going to take it one game at a time and have fun.”
the finals start on Thursday at the civic center for the best of 5 championship series.
