A new football season kicks off this weekend - and we'll tell you about that in a few minutes....but first, the young semi pro basketball season continues tonight. Last week, PUP city council candidate Keith Acosta and his new team the San Pedro Tiger Sharks lost to his old team the BTL Nets. Tonight at the City Center, Keith will be looking for vindication against a new franchise, the Belize Bank Bulldogs. But a few of the Bulldogs came by our studio today to say they're waiting for Keith with more bite than bark.
Bernard Wagner, Bulldogs Manager
"Jules as you know we are very enthusiastic. It is our first time as a franchise, Belize Bank, entering the league so we are very enthusiastic about our chances and we feel that we have put in the necessary work and the end product, at the end of the day, we believe will be something that fans will really enjoy watching."
Aubrey Lopez, Bulldog
"I'm very enthusiastic about it, all the players are enthusiastic about it. It's been something that the league is in a rebuilding state and players have accepted that and we've grown to love the sport so much that players don't mind playing for the little bit of money and the love that is there for basketball. So I guess every player is excited about playing and I am sure that the fans should be excited about seeing the highest level of basketball back in Belize. The scouting report on San Pedro is that I don't think they'll be able to keep up with the running style we're playing. We're going to try to bring the Phoenix Dallas type of basketball, you have to keep on running and keep on scoring to keep up with us."
Ian Ferrera, Bulldog
"To me that is a very big hype for me, that will make me step up my game, just knowing that I'll be playing against Keith Acosta. We'll fare off very well."
Aubrey Lopez,
"We've always been playing against each other, championships from Belmopan and Cayo, we've been archrivals. It's a pleasure to play against him, everything you lace them up against Keith Acosta you must bring your game and likewise he knows when he comes against Aubrey Lopez he has to bring his game also. I think the fans should be out for a good treat tonight like I said."
Ian Ferrera,
"I'm looking straight to victory, the manager told us that nothing else other than a victory or contracts will be scratched."
Tonight's game tips at 9:00.
