When Cross Country champ Shane Vasquez rode across the finish line on Holy Saturday he rode into the history books and into ownership of a 500-pound bull. As we showed you the bull, which was donated by the UDP's Belize Rural North standard-bearer Edmund Castro, was at the Marion Jones Stadium for Shane to take home. That is where the problem began because with his bounty of trophies and roses, Shane had no space to take home the quarter ton bull to his home which is 75 miles away in Cayo. So Castro took the bull back to Maskall which is when a series of unfortunate events unfolded. How? It's a funny story, but it's no laughing matter. Castro explained how he was almost bulldozed.
Edmund Castro, Donated Bullied
"On Saturday Shane was not prepared to take the bull home so he asked me to keep the bull at my place in Maskall until he could come later on this week or by the weekend to pick up the bull. Sunday I was out to make sure that the bull get water and that kind of thing 'cause I wanted this bull to at least gain ten pounds by the time he come for the bull and the bull got away from me.
I decided to be a cow man, not a cow bwoy, and capture the bull. Upon holding on to the rope for the second time, the bull decided to take another dash and rather than to dash again and tear up the ligaments on my fingers, I decided to wrap the bull around a post. But running into the post to wrap the bull around the post, I actually ran into a barbed wire that went into my eyes which came in from one end of my eye and came out on the other side. So I almost lost my eye in the process of donating a bull. This bull would have been in honor of Edmund Castro's eye instead of Busman Arnold.
I would like to extend to Shane to please come and get his bull."
Castro says he plans to donate another bull next year in continuing the tradition of the legendary Busman Arnold.
