The 18th annual Krem Cycling Classic will ride tomorrow and the news tonight is that Marlon Castillo, Mateo Cruz, Gregory Lovell, and Geovanni “Froggie” Leslie will be in the pack of 75 contenders. That is because while the four riders from the Santino’s Cycling Team were banned from cycling by Association President Gerald Garbutt – today they got the green light from the Supreme Court.

On Thursday Garbutt suspended Mateo Cruz for two years and Gregory Lovell, Marlon Castillo, and Jeovanni “Froggie” Leslie from cycling for one year. The cyclists, all members of the Santino’s Cycling Team, didn’t show up for a drug test on December 17th. Their team manager Santino Castillo maintains that his riders did show up because there is no proper testing procedure in place.

And that is what Castillo and his attorneys took to Supreme Court Justice John Muria today. They applied for and Justice Muria granted an injunction in which he permitted the four cyclists to participate in the race and barred Gerald Garbutt and the Cycling Association from preventing the four to participate. The injunction is temporary and the full case will be heard in January. It is a big victory for Santino Castillo who has maintained his riders were being unfairly punished. Cycling Association President Gerald Garbutt told us this evening that he had just been served with the injunction and had no comment.

Tomorrow’s Krem Classic starts at 9 am from the Santa Elena Border. All eyes will be on the four riders because not only has Marlon Castillo won the race once and placed second twice – but Castillo along with Gregory Lovell and Mateo Cruz swept the “Pine Classic” two weeks ago.
