Sunday is Mother’s Day which is normally the date reserved for the female Cross Country Cycling Classic – but that won’t be the case this year. Belize’s premier female cyclists will ride for the garland two weeks later on Sunday May 25th. Coordinator of the Female Cross Country Leticia Westby told us why.

Leticia Westby, Coordinator – Female Cross Country
“This year the race is going to be on the 25th of May. The reason for the change was that originally they had scheduled the agricultural show for this weekend here which is Mother’s Day weekend. Unfortunately when we got information of the change we had already discussed it with the females and their training schedule was changed due to the new date. So the race will now be on the 25th of May from San Ignacio to Belize City, finishing in front of the Memorial Park where the Cross Country finishes.

We have been making the announcement but unfortunately I guess it was not well broadcast in that regard so we just want the public to know not to expect it on this Mother’s Day weekend and we are now having it on the 25th of May. It starts at eight o’clock from San Ignacio and it travels the Western Highway all the way to Belize City.”

This will be the 19th annual Female Cross Country Race. 11 locals and 4 foreign riders are expected participate.
