Belize isn’t known for its place in the Guinness Book of World Records, but according to the Ambergris Today Newspaper in San Pedro, one man is intent on doing it and in a most unexpected field, the little known kite-surfing According to the newspaper, San Pedro resident Martin John hopes to earn his place in the Guinness Book of World Records by being the first to kite - surf the entire length of the Meso-American Barrier Reef. That’s 600 miles, all the way from Isal Contay, above Cancun to the Sapodilla Caye range in the Toledo District.

According to the paper, he plans to start at the end of this month. John has been preparing for two months and the paper says he recently kite surfed from San Pedro to Belize City – which is 21 miles – in an hour and a half.
For those who don’t know, kite-surfing is a water sport in which the surfer positions himself on a small board which is strapped to a large controllable kite that flies aloft. The wind then pulls the rider through the water.
