While the latest wave of crime is keeping the police busy, today there was a diversion from the bad news as the Police Department received $40,000 in computers and related equipment from Businessman Arun Hotchandani. The donation of the 10 Dell Pentium 4 desktop computers along with scanners and printers was made this morning at the Raccoon Street station to Commissioner Jose Carmen Zetina.
Jose Zetina, Police Commissioner
"The department feels very good because this only shows or demonstrates what the community can do, especially the business sector, in helping to expand our capability in the Belize Police Department."
Arun Hotchandani, Businessman
"We are doing our part. I hope that this serves as a good example to encourage the other members of the business community, in the Indian community or whoever, to also participate in such programs that will assist the police department and other departments that are needy which will facilitate all of us in the end."
9 of the 10 computers will be used in the city while the other goes to the headquarters in Belmopan. Hotchandani has made a similar donation to the Corozal police station.
