For the fourth time this week Belize City police responded to a Murder call. Just before 6 this morning a resident at the mile 8 community on the Western Highway made a call on police after the discovery of a body inside a house that is under construction in the new community.
For the second time in six weeks police came out to find a teenager dead and a motive lacking. 7NEWS was first on scene this morning and here's the story.
Alfonso Noble Reporting, [From Mile 8 Community]
At around 7 this morning the police hauled away the body of 18 year old Enrique Trapp had been killed inside this house that is under construction in the mile 8 community. Residents say that sometime after 6 the young man's feet were seen sticking out of the house's door and they called in the police.
Sgt. Chris Noble, Hattieville Police
"We got a call this morning from patrolling officers in this area that a body or somebody was sleeping in the house. We don't know what transpired before but the officers did visit the scene and they did find a deceased male. It was a teenager from the immediate area and there was some blood in the area of the head. We have not yet ascertained exactly what has happened; what had happened."
Trapp's body was found lying face up inside this graffiti scrawled half-finished house where the pool of blood remained this morning. His bicycle along with a very small quantity of marijuana were found inside the house. He had a lighter in his hand and a stick of weed was lying next to him. This is all police know at this moment and they've asked Trapp's mother Rose Almendarez and his older brother Kennard Gabb to provide statements. With this information, they hope to begin to fill in the sequence of events that led to his death. Almendarez says she last saw her son alive sometime around 10 last night when he was getting ready to go to sleep.
Rose Almendarez, Victim's Mother
"About 10 I left to go to one of my friends and I saw him already in his clothes to go to sleep and then he went in his bed. I don't know what happened after that because I went to one of my friends."
Alfonso Noble,
Do you know if somebody came to holler for him?
Rose Almendarez, Victim's Mother
"My other son said somebody did come to look for him about 10 o'clock but I don't know anything after that."
One thing is clear he somehow came to the house only to be killed in an inexplicable fashion. Inexplicable because Trapp was not known to be a troublesome person, not in the neighborhood or to the police.
Sgt. Chris Noble, Hattieville Police
"He is not known as a problem. Enrique Trapp, I do him personally. He lives in the immediate vicinity of 8 miles. He has been living here for some time. To my mind he has been involved with the police none at all."
And so his death came as another saddening shock to the quiet community, which has witnessed its second murder in 6 weeks. And this morning there were no easy answers and all residents could do, was wash away the blood from inside the house where he met his death.
While police have been told that the body was discovered by chance; every indication is that the gunshots were heard in the quiet neighborhood last night. Residents report that after the shots, they saw a man in a red shirt ride off from the area where Trapp was found. It's a very vague description and police still do not have a suspect.
