Presently, very few countries have an export strategy, and now, Belize hopes to be one of the first. Over the next few days, BELTRAIDE will be holding a series of regional consultations to design a national export strategy. Executive Director of BELTRAIDE, Lourdes Smith says that this national export strategy will give Belize advantages for increasing the country's export potential.

"At the same time while trying to develop our export strategy and trying to develop our exports to increase the foreign exchange earnings for Belize so that we could continue to import. We are a nation of importers right now and so we need to balance that off. The more we export, the more foreign exchange we have to do the other activities that we need to do. And so along with the export promotion we also will be doing investment promotion because we need our local investors to invest more in developing our export products. Today we have a regional briefing of the national export strategy. We have 5 countries being represented here today and its in preparation for developing our national export strategy which is key to what all we have been doing at BELTRAIDE."
After two days of regional consultations, the Belize team will begin the formulation of the national export strategy in proper.
