We've all seen the scary advertisements from the productive sector, which claims that government's over taxation is causing farmers to lose money and force some to move out of Belize. Well, it seems that the scare campaign has not gone un-noted as government today announced that leaders of the productive sector, mostly Mennonites, and government officials met to discuss the issues affecting farmers.
A release from government states that representatives from the productive sector met with the prime minister, minister of agriculture and the Minister of Investment and Trade to discuss the tax structure and the effects it has on farmers. At the end of the meeting a decision was taken to set up a working group comprised of four representatives from the productive sector and four representatives from the government to review the impact of taxes on the productive sector. A report is to be submitted within 45 days of the appointment of the working group.
