From time on this newscast, you'll hear us quote nameless sources from various institutions but tonight, there's a twist on that old journalistic practice, as the Ministry of Finance is quoting a nameless source within its own Ministry.

The confounding public relations maneuver comes as government has responded to its downgrade yesterday from the Standard and Poor's rating service. The release quotes a nameless "spokesman for the Ministry of Finance" who seems to know quite a bit. This_ "spokesman" says that the government has been working on consolidating its fiscal position and building up the reserves. And according to the statement, this "spokesman" concludes that the financing gap, quoted with alarm by S&P, will be reduced substantially when government sells the BTL shares.
