Without any warning, at midnight on Sunday, gasoline prices at the pump soared to over the $9 mark.
In the city, a gallon of premium gasoline is now at an all time high of $9.07. That is up 9 cents from the previous price of $8.98. Regular gas increased 6 cents to $8.72 while diesel is now at $6.69. Today at the pump, drivers told us the new prices are giving them "gas pain."
Driver #1,
"Its horrible. It's $9.07. I plan to park and walk. It's giving me gas pain. I can't afford it. When you see how government has been adding on the price and people just continue to buy, it will reach $10 and maybe $12 and that's unfair to us."
Driver #2,
"I would like for them to lower the gas prices because then its we who are feeling right now as customers buying the gas."
Keith Swift,
Did you expect the price would reach this level?
Driver #2,
"I know it would happen due to the economy of the country so we have to expect it."
Keith Swift,
Can you afford $9.07?
Driver #2,
"Well I can't afford it. I really want them to drop the price right now because it is getting to a peak right now where I think I'll have to end up selling my vehicle right now."
Driver #3,
"Its rough boy."
And if you think $9.07 in Belize City is bad, the price for a gallon of premium fuel in Toledo is now at $9.27.
For context, in January the price for a gallon of premium gas was $8.33. 7 months later it has risen 74 cents to $9.07.
