She's gone.....in an late afternoon memo, to all Social Security's over 250 employees, Narda Garcia announced her departure from the place she's been running for the past 7 years. The memo says: "the Board of Directors is the entity with the authority to determine my employment status as chief executive officer, and as you know from the current publicity about Social Security, it is this decision that I was awaiting. This has been determined today."

And the Board of Directors did meet today. That meeting went from 10 am to 4:00 pm and it was decided that they will have to pay her some portion of her 5 year contract that still has 4 years on it. Fully paid up, it's worth a reported half a million dollars but now the board will meet with its lawyers to decide what portion of that it must pay to avoid legal culpability.

A release from Social Security simply says that the Board of Directors has terminated Narda Garcia and assistant manager Dalila Castillo is now acting CEO.

What's next for Garcia? Well now that she's been fired she can sue Social Security for wrongful dismissal but at this point it's not clear what legal options she will pursue. Her husband, Dr. Greg Garcia, a PUP standard bearer, still works at Social Security.
