Today the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service began a two-day investment forum. A business mission comprising 33 investors from Los Angeles California is attending along with local business houses. Director of BELTRAIDE, Lourdes Smith says the goal is to stimulate interaction with local and foreign investors to promote growth in various businesses.

"It is an opportunity to bring people that have projects or have an interest in investing together. We are trying to promote joint ventures as well as investments, foreign direct investments into Belize and for Belizeans we would like to encourage them to reinvest their monies in Belize.
All these business to business, if you want to call it networking, and investment into joint ventures, it is very very important because by reinvesting your money in Belize or bringing foreign direct investment, we keep the economy growing and growing. The foreign direct investment brings fresh foreign exchange which is very much needed in Belize and usually with these joint ventures we are looking at export oriented investments; tourism, agro-processing or agriculture. Many of the people here today also are buyers who are looking to distribute products like spices, sauces, etc. in the U.S. or in other parts of the world."
