To commemorate the twenty fifth anniversary of Belize's independence, the Postal Service's Philatelic Department today released a special commemorative edition of 5 Belizean stamps. They depict the map of Belize, the national symbols, the 1981 Independence logo, the Constitution of Belize and for the first time ever, the image of a living Belizean, George price. Emelia Cayetano explains the reason for the new issues.
Emelia Cayetano,
"This edition I think is just appropriate for the occasion. We are celebrating the 25th anniversary of our independence and this is very very meaningful to us, to the entire nation. And so the Stamp Advisory Committee had decided that these stamps and the pictures shown on the stamps are very very appropriate for the season.
The Stamp Advisory Committee had a meeting and they discussed various topics and at the conclusion everyone agreed and chose those that are depicted on the stamps. They were appropriate, they were very symbolic, they were very meaningful to the season and to the occasion of the 25th anniversary of our independence."
The stamps come in values of 25 cents, 30 cents, 60 cents, one dollar and 5 dollars.
