The Independence Day party starts on Wednesday night, but before you out roll out, think about what route you're going To take, and where you're gonna park. Getting around the center of Belize City will be made that much more difficult by the visit of the Panamanian President Martin Torrijos. Special provisions have to be made for him on the 20th night at the Memorial Park. These include the reservation of an area near Fort Point and the tight control of the flow of traffic and people. The man in charge of the city's traffic and this headache is ASP Aaron Guzman.

ASP Aaron Guzman, Head of Traffic
"There will be high police presence in that area. We will control the traffic going into that area. Drivers are reminded that if you are going into that area, and anybody going out to witness the fireworks, are reminded that when you come over the Swing Bridge and you make a right into North Front Street, the traffic will be controlled in that area there.

You will be allowed to go out towards the Memorial Park but you cannot go on South Park Street. North Park Street is a natural no entry so you can't go up that way. You will be allowed to go on Cork Street. You can go on Cork Street, you will be directed to go contrary to traffic, that is corner Cork Street and the Marine Parade. You can go towards the Bliss grave, the Animal Park area. You can park in that area for the evening of the 20th and then when you leave you can continue, pass through the tourist village, the gate will be opened, come along the route, that is contrary to traffic but no problem for the evening of the 20th and then you exit from North Front Street Area.

On the morning of the 21st, you won't be allowed to park in the area of the Animal Park, in the area of the tourist village on North Front Street where the parade will be.

Officers will be posted at all these points for the evening of he 20th and the morning of the 21st starting 5:30 pm on 20th and 5 am on the 21st."

Pedestrians will be allowed access to the area with the exception of a designated area for VIP personnel immediately in front of the Memorial Park.
