It was agreed to last year, and construction on the new bridge between Belize and Mexico at the Santa Elena border could begin as early as March of this year. Representatives of Belize Ministry of Works met with their Mexican counterparts in Chetumal today.

The Mexican government is paying for the bridge and the approaches and have identified a Mexican contractor - who will hire Belizeans for the work on this side of the bridge. And while Mexicans have the money and the means, the government of Belize has some land issues that it must settle before work can begin.
