By this time tomorrow evening the PUC will announce whether your light bill will be going up. The Commissioners met for the third successive day today and deliberations went late into the evening. It’s a difficult decision they have to make as they must weigh the skyrocketing cost of petroleum products against the political cost of another increase in the cost of living. but the final decision must be reached because by tomorrow evening a final report must be presented. By July first the rates recommended in that decision will be implemented.
So which way is the PUC leaning? Well, we do know that the commission rejected BEL’s proposed increase in its initial decision. But since then with oil prices going through the roof, and the independent expert recommending an increase, that position will likely have weakened. So best we can say right now is that we’ll know in 24 hours.
