Last night we told you that the Solicitor General Tanya Herwanger has resigned and two more trained legal professionals are expected to leave that office as well. Well, the situation is also worrying over at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. As we told you yesterday the new DPP Cheryl Lynn Branker Taitt has been confirmed in the post. But she takes over an office staffed by only four crown counsels and insider information tells us that two of them are leaving at the start of next month.
When we contacted Branker Taitt today, she did confirm that there are two crown counsels whose contracts are coming to an end in August and she is not certain if they will be remaining in office. But she says she met with the Attorney General Wilfred Elrington today and he confirmed that government intends to have the office fully staffed by August. Fully staffed means 6 crown counsels plus the DPP. Branker Taitt says that there are applications pending and she will be processing those as a matter of priority.
