Today one thousand four hundred food baskets were handed over to Prime Minister Dean Barrow. The donation is a gift from Brazil to Belize. Following the aftermath and the destruction of Tropical Storm Arthur the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva had pledged his government’s support.

The food baskets contain fifteen pounds of rice, ten pounds of beans, five pounds of sugar, cooking oil, powder milk and corn beef. The supplies valued at one hundred thousand dollars will be handed over to the National Emergency Management Organization for distribution to the families affected.

The handing over ceremony took place this morning in the Prime Minister’s office in Belmopan.
