Albert Street residents and businesses have been complaining about the dust and the road conditions in the downtown area for months, and now there’s finally there’s some relief. Over the weekend, one of the contractors began what’s known as pavement scarification which is a part of the preparation for re-surfacing. Last night after working hours, a vibrating roller was used to compact the road and ensure that it is level and uniform after prolonged trenching left it uneven.
But apart from all that, it also makes the road far more tolerable in that it is relatively smooth and dust free. And to control dust in the short term, CEO in the Ministry of Works Cadet Henderson says they may even use some tar as a temporary measure – but only as a foundation for the hot mix paving.
And as a matter of clarification the price tag is $3.34 million but it includes hot mix paving of the entire length of Central American Boulevard from the flag monument roundabout to its junction with Caesar Ridge Road. The $3.34 million is also not new capital spending, it is being diverted from the San Estevan Road project.
In related news Bishop Street from Regent Street to East Canal will be closed tomorrow. And on Thursday Albert Street from Church to King Street will be close form 6:00 am to 1:00 pm.
