Denise Courtenay did not make any complaint that got British High Commissioner to Belize John Yapp fired. That’s what her husband Eamon Courtenay told us in an email today. The clarification comes after the British newspaper, “The Mail on Sunday” reported that Denise Courtenay’s complaint about Yapp’s inappropriate behavior had gotten him sent home from Belize. The newspaper reported that he had made the inappropriate advance in April at the House of Culture.
According to her husband Eamon, that incident described in the article is false. Courtenay did tell us that he was contacted by the British Foreign Office after they launched an investigation into Yapp’s conduct and performance based on several reports that they received.
So, the best we’ve been able to determine is that Yapp was not sent home based on any allegation of sexual misbehavior. And while we are told there were a few of those, his problems seemed to extend beyond public lechery, and it is the combination of all these things may have accounted for his return trip home.
