In early December, the Novelo’s scored a major success in the Supreme Court when they were given leave to apply for judicial review of decisions taken by the Transport Department. The judge also granted them an injunction against new permits for bus operators in the north, thus permitting the ones already doing business in the area to do so on expired licenses.

But the Transport’s Department’s Attorney Lois Young challenged that; alleging that route re-distributions in the south and west left the Novelo companies with more buses than runs, resulting in the management ‘flooding’ the northern zone with the additional vehicles. Young wanted the court to issue an order restraining the Novelo’s from putting the extra buses on the road. Well that hearing was held yesterday and Novelo’s attorney Lisa Shoman maintained that instead of flooding the roadways, her clients were simply continuing to operate the runs for which they had been granted permits.

Justice Awich dismissed the application and ordered the government to pay the Novelo’s costs.
