On Thursday a jury convicted 66 year old Rupert Flowers of unlawful carnal knowledge for having sexual relations with a 15 year old girl. Today Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced Flowers to the minimum – 5 years in jail. That means Flowers will be released from jail when he is 71 years old. Justice Lucas took into consideration that he had no previous conviction. Weighing heavily alongside that was his age and his medical condition since Flowers says he is a diabetic and has high blood pressure.
Flowers today repeated that he couldn’t have had sex with the girl since he is impotent. He told Judge Lucas that he was a scapegoat for other child molestors and that’s why he was convicted. Judge Lucas said he didn’t have a choice but to send Flowers to jail because a jail sentence is mandatory.
The incident occurred in September of 2006 at Flowers’ home in Hattieville. The girl says that after sex Flowers gave her $1.50. Flowers will join his friend 41 year old Leroy Stevens. He was convicted last month of having sexual relations with the same 15 year old girl. He got a 6 year jail sentence.
