Tonight Belize City police are on the lookout for two gunmen who they believe held up the Texaco Gas Station on Freetown Road last night and hit the Freetown Drug Store one hour later. Today the drugstore owner Raul Acevedo showed us the robbery as it was captured on his security camera. According to Acevedo while his son was standing outside with a security guard he was inside attending to customers when the robbers walked in the store pointing a gun at his son.
Raul Acevedo, Owner – Freetown Drug Store
“My son was outside with a gentleman that works security for me also. One customer came in, I had two customers sitting here. Then a third customer came in and I had three chairs, they were waiting to be served. Whilst serving this gentleman here, this when it happens, this is my son being brought in at gunpoint. I saw him coming in and so I went to tell him that everything is okay and don’t do anything stupid.
My first concern was my son and my customers so I told them don’t worry about anything, you’ll get everything you want, just take it easy. They pointed the gun at me and I told the customers we need to get on the floor. I was giving him the money and he attacked the customers that were sitting over here, took away the lady’s cell phone and then they went. Everything happened within a matter of seconds. They came back and pointed the gun at me as if he was going to shoot and I went and see how they went away but because outside was dark, because the lamppost wasn’t working, I couldn’t see what direction they took.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
Do you believe that they may have been monitoring the drug store for some time before they actually made their move?
Raul Acevedo,
“I would suspect you know because I was told they saw a white vehicle pass the drug store earlier in the night and it drove slow. Three of them were in the vehicle, the two guys that came in and along with the driver. Two people saw them but they didn’t tell me anything until afterwards.”
According to Raul Acevedo he was not able to identify his robbers. One of the gunmen did conceal his face with a red handerkerchief. It is believed that the robbers stole between five to eight hundred dollars. 7NEWS understands that the description of the white vehicle believed to have been used by the robbers to get away matches the one for the vehicle that was reportedly used in the hold-up one hour earlier at the Texaco Gas Station. That robbery was also captured on security camera and we understand that it did help police apprehend one of their suspects identified as one Kareem Flowers believed to be the vehicle’s driver.
