Finally, the price of flour is going down. Government announced today that the wholesale price of flour – which is state controlled - will drop why a whopping 15% from $82 to $69 for a one hundred pound sack. That is a $13 decrease. For retail buyers – the price will drop from 84 cents a pound to 71 cents. A release from government says that when you add in mark up of 8 cents – the most you should pay for a pound of flour in Belize City is 79 cents.
This will apply in the districts where the maximum price of a pound of flour will be as follows: 80 cents in Belmopan and Orange Walk; 82 cents in Punta Gorda and Benque; and 84 cents in San Pedro. Again those are the maximum prices you should be paying for a pound of flour. If a store is charging a higher price – you can report it to government’s new controller of supplies Jose Trejo. He is in charge of enforcing price controls.
