OAS: Container Removed in Compliance with Confidence Building Measures

The BDF says when it removed Guatemalan Lionel Arrellanos’ container from Belize’s territory on Wednesday, it was a show of force but the OAS says it was confidence building and that it happened in the adjacency zone. A release from the Belize Guatemala Adjacency Zone Mission today says that, the container was in, “the adjacent zone between the village of Santa Cruz, Guatemala and Jalacté, in Belize.” It adds that the container was removed in compliance with the confidence building measures and repeats that it was quote, “located in the adjacent zone administered by Belize.” It stresses that the OAS mission for the adjacency zone did four verifications on site since November 2008 and that the owner of the structure was notified by the OAS.
