In the 80’s when CBS News’ 60 Minutes did a feature on Belize host, Harry Reasoner famously said “Belize is long on heart, but short on paint”. It seems Carnival Cruise Line feels more or less the same thing as they yesterday donated 1,000 gallons of paint to the Ministry of Tourism. CEO Michael Singh explained how it will be used.
Mike Singh,
“We talked about how they can assist and they made a kind offer to help us with donating paint so that we can use the paint being donated in the area around the Tourist Village so when guests walk out there is a better view of Belize City. So they’ve given us one thousand gallons of paint which the Ministry will be putting together a committee to decide how we will deploy that paint and what areas will get attention. That committee will be comprised of people from the Belize City Council as well as hopefully we will have an architect on board and we plan to use the CYDP, the Youth for the Future group to assist us to provide labour to get some of the work done. It is a great step for us, we are very grateful to the FCCA.”
James Nisbet,
“It is in the best interest for everyone, for all of the destination to look quite nice and I think this was a golden opportunity for them to reach out to Belize.”
The donation took place at the Tourism Village yesterday evening.
