The EU stormed through Belize this week like a fairy godmother at minutes to midnight giving away homes in San Narcisso, building a Sugar Road, Electrifying Villages in the south, and for good measure they signed over $25.2 million in grant funds. The signing ceremony took place today at the Prime Minister’s office in Belmopan, and the grant was signed by Dean Barrow and ambassador of the European Union, the suddenly omnipresent Marco Mazzocchi-Alemmani.
The money will be used for a road design and the construction and supervision of a cane replanting program the support of extension services. Also, out of the $25.2 million, a little over $8.5 million of that is going to be put towards assisting banana producers with economic structure and improving the development of education and skill in the field. An announcement was also made that the EU intends to open a Commission office here in Belize.
