Today Orange Walk Police say they have in custody three men who they believe have been terrorizing Chinese business establishments and robbing them of money and phone cards. What is disturbing is that police say all victims in each case report that the men presented themselves as law enforcement officers. Two were dressed in camouflage and one in a police uniform and then they were held up. Well around eleven this morning Orange Walk Police observed a vehicle and three men inside who matched the description given to them.
The vehicle was reportedly by Codd’s Shop in Carmelita Village heading out of the area when the police stopped it and searched inside. Inside the vehicle police found camouflage outfits and a police uniform. The three men were then identified as Dominic Strack, Calbert Budd Jr. and Selwin Griffith. Selwin Griffith was a police officer stationed in Belize City until recently but according to reports to 7News he had resigned from the police force one month ago.
Strack, Budd and Griffith are in custody at the Orange Walk Police Station and all three are expected to be charged on Friday. While they are accused of robbing two eleven seven shops in Orange Walk and one store in Trial Farm, authorities say they are also investigating the possibility that the men were involved in other unsolved robberies that happened in the surrounding areas in which the modus operandi is believed to have been the same.
