Remember all the fuss made about that 55 million dollars in BTL and BEL shares that Social Security had agreed to purchase? Critics cried that a cash strapped government was using Social Security as a piggy bank. Well, even though a unanimous board resolution was passed to purchase the utility shares - it seems it might not go through after all. Unofficial word to 7News tonight is that government will probably end up keeping the shares, and Social security will invest its millions in treasury bills and notes - the same ones currently being sold by government to pay back the BTL debt. Best information says that Social Security would buy more than 10 million dollars in government paper, while government would stay with the shares and continue to receive the dividend payments from the shares as a revenue stream.
