Wednesday the city went wild with a spasm of gang warfare, ending with three murders in just five hours. Tonight the city is still recovering from that spree of violence, but Southside police aren't waiting around to see what happens next. They took the matter in hand when they launched an anti-gang operation, from 3:00 this morning until 10:00. According to a press release from Commander Chester Williams, QUOTE, "During this operation most of the major players in the current gang warfare were taken into custody." Williams says the purpose of the roundup was twofold; first, to conduct searches for firearms and drugs at their homes, but, probably more importantly, to bring them, by force if necessary, to the table with police to air out the grievances that have been escalating hostilities to murderous proportions. That meeting was held this afternoon at the Raccoon Street Station and when we went there we were told that all the proceedings are confidential and we were not allowed to capture any footage. Police have not announced the outcome, but we will have an update by Monday.
