Back in December of last year, we took you to the village of Blue Creek, Orange Walk, where the first official shipments of cattle were exported into Mexico.
Since taking office, the Briceno Administration has been pushing for cattle exports to go out, through the back into Guatemala, and now, through officials channels into Mexico. The hope is that these official export channels can replace all the informal trading routes, such as those controversial, back-door operations into Guatemala.
Today, the Ministry of Agriculture celebrated with the cattle farmers of the Orange Walk community of Shipyard. That's because their first shipment of cows is in the process of being sold to the Mexican company, "SuKarne".
This morning, our news team travelled to Shipyard's outskirts to take a look at the logistics behind this effort to strengthen cattle trade between Belize and Mexico.
Daniel Ortiz has that story:
As you heard, this shipment consists of 349 heads of cattle that came from Shipyard. The other 85 head of cattle came from Blue Creek Village.
