We are five days away from the border reopening and hotels in Chetumal are gearing up to welcome Belizeans back. But like the government has been emphasizing, it needs to be done in the safest way possible. So to recap on the requirements: you must be vaccinated and if you stay overnight, you will have to take a test upon your return - or if you are exhibiting symptoms.
And today the Minister of Tourism said that they've been working closely with the Ministry of Health for a full reopening - because it is a big chunk of the tourism pie.

Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"The land borders or traffic through the borders is important for us, it represents almost 20% of the overnight arrivals and so it is long awaited, we have opened like kinda-kinda, we say we're partially opened for tourists but even though we're opened, the borders are closed on 12 o' clock on the weekends when a lot of people travel so it is important that we open up. We have to continue to work with the Ministry of Health to ensure that we do so with the necessary protocols so that our people can be safe. But I believe you were the one who just said that other destinations are opening up so either you open up or you don't, right?"
