Today was day one of the mandatory travel insurance being implemented for all visitors arriving through the airport and land borders.

And, pictures we have seen from the airport show lines, lots of lines for the Belize Travel Insurance.

Each visitor arriving has to pay 18 US dollars - and while it's available for pre purchase on the web - maybe these travelers didn't get the memo. After all that was just set up a week ago. But, for sure, it was a disaster, considering the line you're seeing is just for one flight!

After this, travelers still have to line up for COVID screening and immigration processing.

Industry persons we spoke to said they shudder to think what will happen on Saturday when there are 19 international flights arriving. Viewers will know that Belize is still in what's considered high season.

At this point, it's hard to tell if this rocky start is just the growing pains that come along with early implementation or if the lines will be the status quo, but for sure there will be complaints on travel sites - at least in the short term.
