Thousands of Belizeans watched The SuperBowl. It was a pure West Coast moment, the L.A. Rams playing for sports biggest prize in Los Angeles with West Coast Rap taking center-stage at Halftime.
But while you may have taken in the game on your "good, good" Belizean couch, three Belize City's councilors seemed to really have gotten into the Super Bowl Sunday Spirit, traveling all the way to the U.S. to bask in all that LA grandeur.
What looks to many like an extravagant trip - has raised eyebrows - especially inside the council, especially considering that all three councilors, one of whom was recently at public odds with Mayor Bernard Wagner, were able to take leave for the sports appreciation trip at the same time.
we reached out to Goodin for comment and he told us that the trip was not extravagant, in fact, due to the work of Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler who has brought both Alaska and frontier airlines to Belize, trips north have been made much more economical. The councilors were able to take advantage of that. Goodin also says that the people with whom he and his fellow councilors are pictured at the Superbowl "watch party" are representatives of the Belizean diaspora who have committed to donating in excess of 8000 school bags filled with school supplies for the children of the City in the coming school year.
According to Goodin the City Council did not contribute a cent to the personal trip that the three councilors made.
