But Stake Bank says the time to stop is now. That's what a lawsuit filed on Friday against the government and Portico says.
It makes a claim for damages of $178.4 million dollars with the numbers still mounding claiming the government breached their definitive agreement way back in 2017 when it signed an MOU with Portico.
They are also asking the court for an injunction against the Government of Belize and Portico from going any further towards developing a cruise port.
Their attorney Glenn Godfrey writes in a claim form, that government knew or ought to have known that approving more than one cruise ship docking facility in the Belize district would have an adverse economic impact on the viability of the Stake Bank Project and concludes that the Government has committed multiple, and continuing breaches of the Stake Bank Definitive Agreement.
So, now they want an injunction stopping the government from taking steps to enforce or to implement the Portico Definitive Agreement.
