The bloody weekend started with a road traffic incident on Saturday morning that took the lives of two persons. It was just before 8 when a vehicle collided into a motorcycle near the Mayemal curve at miles 59 and 60 on the Philip Goldson Highway. Both men on the motorcycle, 33-year-old Carlos Novelo and 28-year-old Alex Calderon passed away. Today, the police told us more about the incident.

"On Saturday 19, August 2023, police responded to a fatal RTA between miles 59 and 60 on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Upon their arrival they saw a Ford pickup on the side of the road. Also seen was a motorcycle. Also seen was the lifeless body of two male persons identified as Carlos Novelo and Alex Calderon."
"Information is that the pickup was heading to Corozal when it collided with the motorcycle. Both persons were taken to the Northern Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Investigation into this matter continues. The driver has been served with an NIP and samples obtained for testing."
