Today's sign of the apocalypse was written on a chalkboard and hung outside the window of one of the city's most popular taco joints: Dave's. It says that as of October 1st, chicken corn tacos will be sold at 2 for a dollar. This effectively ends the more or less fixed price for street tacos which has reigned for decades - which is 3 for a dollar. That winning price point fed many a hungry belly across the country - and the question tonight is whether this Dave's variation will have a ripple effect. So far, it hasn't - as we see street tacos still selling for the same price.

But with the price of, well, everything going up - including masa and chicken - the owner of this establishment says he had no choice.

So if you're a fan of Dave's, but you're also pinching your pennies, you may want to head there tomorrow, and maybe even the day after that, because in a little over a week, there will be one less taco per dollar in that greasy foam plate.
