And while BTB's focus is mostly on the overnight sector - which accounts for the supermajority of the tourism sector's earnings, Tillett told us today that they are also developing new plans to increase cruise numbers.

" No we are still under 2019 numbers but i think there's a number of factors for that and for instance you have bigger ships now coming on stream and belize still has a port situation so i think that we need to finalize that whole process in getting a docking facility then you will see real growth in the cruise tourism sector. But it's important that it has to be done in a sustainable manner. Every single thing we do at the BTB and the ministry of tourism is done sustainably. In fact we are just in the process of finalizing the update to our national sustainable tourism master plan."
