Last week, we reported that certain elements of BTL's staff were grumbling about company management. An email was circulated alleging that management is taking employees for granted.
The email further stated, quote, " The impunity of management must come to an end."
Since BTL's majority shareholder is the government of Belize - we asked the Prime Minister on Friday what he knew about these ongoing tensions. He said, not much:
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I don't know what comment I can give but I know that in any company management dictates the direction of a company. You can't have 100 bosses when there are only 100 employees and so that you have management and management sets policies and management dictates the direction of any commodity. BTL, BEL, a private company, our company Centaur so I'm not sure why the employees are saying this but the board of directors set policies then the managers within the BTL then look at the implementation of those policies and then that filters down to the employees and so the Employees everywhere not only BTL need to understand that this is how it works in any corporate structure but I don't know maybe there is something else behind that letter and I would probably need to talk to the chairman Mr Lizárraga to find out what or if there is an issue."
