Could the BPO's possibly hold better career opportunities for outgoing students at the Trade schools? Is it possible that the ITVETS are no longer producing the adequate number of graduates who can get jobs in their field? The Prime Minister had questions about the relevance of training:
Jo-
"Are you suggesting that the ITVETS are failing and that this programme would do better as opposed to all the other trade programmes they have in place? You also mentioned that people are leaving the tourism industry to come and work in the BPOS. Does this also mean that chances are a good paying job in the tourism industry is just as hard to find?"
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"First answering the issue of the ITVETS it is a known fact that the ITVETS have not been functioning well with exception of the Orange Walk ITVET and I always invite people to go and take a look at what has been done in Orange Walk. People would think you are at a campus in the United States."
"But even if something is working well it doesn't mean that you can't find other opportunities and here is an opportunity where we can be training our employees. And you see the concept with the ITVET is that when you finish you could get a job you could be an electrician you could be a carpenter you could do gardening you could do construction working, AC all kinds of stuff this would be just another service they can provide the ITVETs."
"The second part of your question was the issue of that a lot of people in the tourist industry have been leaving to come and work here. It's not necessarily that there are not good paying jobs, there are just not enough good paying jobs."
