Cabinet met on Tuesday - and, according to the weekly brief, the men and woman in the big room approved an unspecified increase in the entrance fees at archaeological reserves - which will come into effect on 1st November 2024. We should note that the last time the UDP government proposed an increase in visitor fees - that was in 2011, and the tour guides responded with a major pushback - forcing government to put the increase on indefinite pause. We'll see how it goes this time since 11 months notice has been given.

Also in the brief is news that Cabinet "gave its approval for the Financial Services Commission to effect the administrative strike-off of inactive companies that have failed to re-register since the enactment of the Belize Companies Act that was published in July 2022." The deadline to re-register companies was on Tuesday, November 28th - and companies not registered by that date - would be stricken from the register and cease to exist - possibly throwing many business and banking arrangements into disarray. As you can see, there are hundreds of them published as a final notice in early November.
