And while parking meters may be a primitive start, Mayor Wagner has his heart set on the creation - or at least the notion of - a Smart City.
He says the parking meters create room for the possibility of more stores and restaurants and even a Shopping Mall for the city. He says it's a must in order to appeal and keep up with the younger generation.
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"The generation z's have different shopping habits, they are not like the generation X and baby boomers that will walk to a store no they are going online and they are shopping so shopping habits has a big contributes to how you as a. Maybe it is time for Belize city to have a mall. Cause the young generation not only is their experience about shopping is different they want to go in a shopping area where they can have a food court. They can have entertainment they probably could watch a movie their shopping habits are different so we have to evolve continuously evolve with the new generation. The generation Zs and the millennial."
