He killed a man, but Justice Candice Nanton said that Shedrack White is "insane" and not fit to stand trial for murder.
Nanton ordered he be kept in a fit place at Kolbe Foundation and be further treated for his mental illness. She also ordered that periodic reviews be done on him every six months and that the court Registrar be notified of all outcomes should he ever be found fit to stand trial.
On July 29, 2020 White killed William Rubio in Belize City.
Nanton noted that while there is no institution for the insane, that he be detained in a safe place at the Kolbe Foundation while he is treated for schizophrenia.
Justice Nanton heard from the Ministry of Health and Wellness Psychiatrist, Doctor Alejandro Matus who has treated white from 2022 to the present, as well as White himself who spoke to the court during the hearing. Doctor Matus said it is highly likely that White could ever be fit for trial and that he has to be on permanent treatment for the rest of his life. Without that, Doctor Matus said, he would be a danger to society.
