Mile 8 on the George Price Highway is a developing community, and the Ministry of Natural Resources is making lots available in the area for only $500 dollars.
However, some who have paid their money feel like they're being scammed since they don't even know where their land begins or where it ends.
Today the Minister assured them that the land has been surveyed, it does exist, but there have been delays in infrastructure due to the last hurricane.
Cordel Hyde, Minister of Natural Resources
"The area is surveyed and and those folks, I can tell you that the investment that our people are made by investing $500 is one of the best investments they've probably made, because ultimately those lands, if not now, will value in short order $20,000. Like you can't beat that with a hammer. It's a massive transfer of wealth from the government to the people. But National Assembly had approved $2 million for us to put in an infrastructure there. I think it was just before Hurricane Lisa and then Hurricane Lisa came and ravaged us and we had damages in excess of $220 million. And the only assistance we got from our friends from abroad was something like $2 million."
"So that $2 million that were left was earmarked for mile 8 had to be used in our hurricane recovery efforts. And so in this coming budget cycle, work will begin in earnest there to ensure that those who have invested their $500 have the access that they so richly deserve."
