And Musa's other ministry, New Growth Industries, has finally gotten a budget this fiscal year. And they're inviting Nancy Marin onboard as a consultant. Marin currently has the only ostrich farm and restaurant in Belize, which is the kind of initiative the ministry is looking for. Here's what Musa told us about it today.

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"The Ministry of New Growth Industries as you know was initially set up as a sort of vehicle to set up new structures, different types of legislation that may be needed and to work hand in hand with other ministries like the Ministry of Economic Development and Beltraide in advancing new industries. We haven't had a budget but this year we do have a budget and so we are speaking currently with Ms Nancy Marin to enter into a consultancy as you rightly mentioned to see how it is we can go from here in setting up the structure, as you know she is very passionate, very innovative in her ideas, she's one of the leading individuals who has come up with many types of new industries for Belize and so we look forward to a working relationship with Ms Marin as we move forward."

Second Road Safety Project Launched

The Department of Transport and The police traffic unit received over 196 thousand dollars worth of equipment today thanks to the second road safety project under the Ministry Of Economic Development. The equipment ranges from traffic cones to check point signs, handheld radios and even first aid kits. Here are some of the highlights from the handing over ceremony.

Osmond Martinez, CEO, Ministry of Economic Development
"We continue to see road accidents and there is als a need to upgrade the enforcement of the constitution and also to support the reinforcement of the transport department so therefore the donation that has been handed over today from the road safety which is under the ministry of economic development and transport is actually to support all the officers the men and women who work in the transport department."

"So the total value of the donation to the ministry of transport is of a 196k belize dollars and is funds that have come through the caribbean development bank but there is also counterpart funding from the government of Belize."

Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Transport
"Our responsibility is to try and see if we can keep the community safe and those who are driving motor vehicles across the country and so what we received today is just a collaboration between ourselves and the road safety project to make sure we can implement these on our highways. Fortunately over the easter i don't hear much accidents and if we can maintain it that way it will be the best approach to save lives so its very important so i'm asking now for a collaboration with the police and traffic department to do night patrols to mitigate the amount of drunk driving and those who are driving carelessly at night time. So these will compliment what we have already and if you know a year ago we got some other equipments and we have now passed the legislation to make sure we can use them and so with this and those we should have improved road safety in our country of Belize."

A Fitting Sendoff For The Great CB.

And, finally tonight, we note again the passing of former postmaster general, house speaker and chairman of the public service commission Charles Bartlett Hyde. An official funeral was held for him yesterday at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Belize City. The current speaker of the house gave the official remembrance:

CB Hyde was 100 years old.
